02 / THE IDEA
It is, “What is actually happening here, and what would be most useful to explore?”
I attend both to what needs care and to the experience of living with it. When relevant and welcomed, we may also explore how a difficulty becomes a statement about you, something you must control, or a requirement about who you must be.
Medicine attends to physical health, pain, injury, and function. Regulation supports the capacity to meet experience without becoming overwhelmed. Unwinding means gently exploring habitual bracing, avoidance, and protective responses. Unbecoming explores a less compulsory need to define yourself through learned patterns, roles, or outcomes. Further inquiry into the felt sense of a separate self is optional.
These questions can inform one another while calling for different responses: physical treatment, practical support, attention to present experience, or deeper inquiry. Childhood adversity and chronic stress can influence physiology and autoimmune disease risk, but emotional inquiry alone cannot establish the cause of an individual's illness. Contemplative exploration does not promise realization.
Explore the approach & four ways of knowingEXPERIENCE / EXPECTATION / POSSIBILITY
Our responses are influenced by what is happening now and what we have learned to anticipate. Prior experiences can become encoded as learned expectations, including how we interpret sensations, relationships, and signs of safety or threat.
Predictive models offer one way to understand this: the brain draws on previous learning to anticipate what may happen next. A familiar response can arise before we have consciously considered the present situation.
When relevant, we explore these patterns through direct experience. Feeling what is present and trying a different response can offer complementary opportunities for new learning, with your comfort, circumstances, and choice guiding the work.
Explore feeling, expression & new learningUNDERSTANDING / DIRECT EXPERIENCE
You may know you are allowed to rest, yet feel guilty when you stop. You may understand why you brace, withdraw, or put everyone else first, yet find yourself doing it again.
Understanding matters. So does what happens when you encounter the situation.
Top down work begins with understanding. We explore the beliefs, interpretations, and expectations shaping your experience: what a sensation seems to mean, what you anticipate, and what you feel you must do.
Bottom up work begins with direct experience. We attend to sensation, movement, emotion, and the impulse to respond. Depending on your needs, this may involve physical care, guided movement, or noticing what happens as you approach something differently.
My approach brings these together. We can understand a protective response, meet what is happening in the body, and explore whether another response becomes available.
Your physical condition, physiology, relationships, and circumstances remain part of the picture. The emphasis follows what is relevant to you.
Explore how understanding and experience work together →CHRONIC DISEASE / COMPLEX HEALTH
Living with chronic disease can affect your energy, movement, daily routines, and relationship with your body. I work with people navigating chronic illness and complex health concerns, bringing together Chinese medicine, relevant physiology, physical care, and practical guidance.
We begin with your medical history, current care, symptoms, and priorities. The aim is to support function, quality of life, and a more individualized understanding of what may help, alongside your ongoing medical care.
When relevant and welcomed, we can also make room for the emotional experience of living with illness. Your physical concerns receive attention whether or not you choose that exploration.

THE PHYSICAL FOUNDATION
Pain, movement, strength, and recovery are practical starting points. We consider what you are experiencing, how you move, and what you want to return to, then select care around those priorities.
The nervous system matters within this picture, alongside tissues, physiology, training, sleep, and the wider context of your life.

01 / ASSESS & MOVE
23 years of personal experience with this foundational technology, from Therastim to NEUBIE. I was the first practitioner to bring NEUBIE to Arizona.
NEUBIE uses pulsed direct current, a different waveform from the alternating or biphasic currents commonly used by traditional stimulation devices. When appropriate, it is paired with selected movements. Your comfort, movement, and response help guide the activity and the next step.
Explore NEUBIE & rehabilitation02 / TREAT & OBSERVE
Fine-needle treatment may form part of care for pain and physical tension. Your history and response guide its use within the session.
Explore acupuncture03 / BUILD & INTEGRATE
Movement, strength work, and relevant recovery habits give the work continuity. Relevant recovery priorities connect the work with your everyday activity.
See how a session unfolds03 / THE EXPERIENCE
Your session brings assessment, appropriate care, and review together. Afterward, I prepare a personalized post-session integration: a summary of relevant observations and practical guidance.
You can tell me when something does not fit or is not helping. Your feedback helps us adjust the care together.
Explore session optionsHow we work togetherYour history, goals, current concerns, and lived experience shape the direction of the work.
Physical findings may call for treatment or progressive movement. Apprehension or bracing may call for tolerable activity and support. A felt requirement such as “I must fix this” may invite inquiry, if welcomed. Your priorities guide which direction is relevant; these are not stages to complete.
Your follow-up guidance connects the session with a manageable action or care priority. As care continues, we review what helped and what needs to change.
Depending on the session, your summary may connect what we noticed, what we worked on, a next step, and what to review. It is adapted to you, rather than a standard assignment.
FROM UNDERSTANDING TO LIVED EXPERIENCE
You may understand a pattern and still feel it arise: bracing, overthinking, withdrawing, or needing control. We can notice sensations, emotions, thoughts, and impulses without deciding in advance what they mean.
Sometimes a response carries a requirement: I must stay useful. I need certainty before I can act. I cannot let this feeling be here. We may explore both the response and what seems to be at stake about you.
The capacity to think, plan, care, and take responsibility remains valuable. Unbecoming explores whether these capacities can be used with more flexibility, rather than continually securing your worth, preventing uncertainty, or controlling what you feel. Further contemplative inquiry is optional.

DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS
Three illustrative pathways, not patient stories or promised outcomes. The emphasis can change as your needs change.
01 / INJURY REHABILITATION
You arrive with an injury and a goal, such as returning to lifting or walking comfortably. We begin with your history, movement, and appropriate clinical assessment, then select physical care and progressive activity. Emotional or contemplative exploration is not required.
Explore rehabilitation & performance02 / PAIN & PROTECTIVE PATTERNS
You notice pain alongside bracing, apprehension, or avoidance. Physical assessment and care remain central. When useful, we also explore those responses and build confidence with tolerable movement. A protective pattern does not prove that emotions caused the pain.
Explore regulation & capacity03 / EMOTIONAL INQUIRY
You want to explore a familiar pattern of control, withdrawal, or self-judgment. We may attend to present sensations, emotions, and responses at a pace you choose. If welcomed, inquiry can also explore identification and the felt sense of a separate self. No release or realization is required.
Explore emotional experience & learned identityAll three begin within the existing consultation and individualized care process. These are not separate services or booking categories.

CARE / CAPACITY / WHOLENESS
Healing can quietly become another demand: regulate better, understand more, become stronger, finally get yourself right.
Sometimes that effort carries an old conclusion: “There is something wrong with me, and I must keep improving to become enough.”
We can care for pain, rebuild function, develop capacity, and explore difficult feelings while also questioning that conclusion.
A protective response deserves understanding. A physical condition deserves appropriate care. Neither determines your worth.
Part of my work is making room for change without making your acceptability depend on it.

A PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE
From ages four to thirteen, I experienced sexual abuse. I also grew up within the Two-by-Twos religious group, an environment I experienced as a controlling religious cult.
Long before I could understand what was happening, I learned to suppress feelings, monitor myself, and adapt to what seemed necessary for safety and belonging.
At nineteen, my life unraveled into severe physical and psychological illness, including psychosis, depression, anxiety, agoraphobia, and multiple autoimmune conditions.
What followed was a long search through medicine, rehabilitation, nutrition, emotional healing, and contemplative practice. Some approaches helped. Others did not. Over time, I began to recognize how much of my life was organized around protection, control, and the feeling that something about me needed to be fixed.
Directly meeting those patterns changed my relationship with myself. I experienced meaningful improvements in physical health alongside a profound sense of emotional wholeness and inner freedom.
I continue to need medical care for a congenital thyroid condition. That experience taught me something central to my work: physical health and freedom from psychological suffering can influence one another while remaining distinct.
Today, I bring my clinical training and lived experience together in caring for the person in front of me.
